Big Sky isn't a single town. It's a collection of centers spread across almost 20 miles of mountain terrain. You'll drive up into the mountains following the gorgeous Gallatin River, climbing from 6,000 feet at Main Street to 7,500 feet in Mountain Village, with Lone Peak rising to 11,166 feet above. This is the full Montana experience, and it requires planning. There's no Uber or Lyft here, one small grocery store with limited selection, and no air conditioning, but even in summer, opening your windows at night keeps things cool. Most guests don't struggle with the altitude, though we recommend checking with your doctor if you're at risk.
